This year Melbourne Cup is on November the 5th. We can’t wait…The Normanby Hotel has always been a go-to spot to watch the Melbourne Cup. Our beer garden is packed, the big screen TV is live and loud, and the energy is electric. Every race is played live and everyone gets a view. We also have a huge screen TV in our Public Bar at eye level so you feel even closer to the action. With TAB facilities on-site, we have your betting needs covered. What happens at The Normanby on Melbourne Cup day?
3 hours of fun, drink, food, entertainment and racing excitement! Every race is live and loud on our big screen TV’s throughout the venue. With two huge screen TV’s everyone has a view. And conveniently we have TAB facilities on-site.
Our Premium package includes 3 hours of food and beverages. Our roaming canapes include delicious bites such as sliders, bao buns, a huge assortment of seafood delights and this year we’re adding a fresh oyster bar. Tasmanian’s finest oysters will be served up fresh until they’re all gone, so come early to enjoy these delicacies.
Drinks will be flowing at the bar, with a wide selection of tap beers, house wines, soft drinks and of course, champagne.
The Normanby opens at 10am, and the Melbourne Cup package runs from 12pm – 3pm.
The entertainment is non-stop.
Our big screen TV’s will be playing every race, live and loud.
Dress up for our Fashions on the Field. Everyone has a chance to win the lucky door prize. And the ever popular photo booth is set up to capture all the fun and frivolity.
Afterwards we’ll have live music playing to get the good times rolling.
We get booked out so make sure you secure your spot right away.
What time do you start the Melbourne Cup party at The Normanby?
Doors are open from 10am. Come early to get your spot!
The 3 hour premium food & drinks package and all the activities will be on from 12-3pm. The Cup races at 2pm (3pm AEST).
How many people normally attend the Melbourne cup party?
We’re normally a full house which is approximately 500 people. Make sure you’re one of them!
Do people get dressed up for Melbourne Cup?
YES! There aren’t many chances to get dressed up this fancy on a Tuesday so step out in style!
Do you have a Fashions on the Field competition?
We sure do. It’s a worthy hamper prize consisting of bottles of wine and delicious treats for our best dressed. Majority rules, as decided by our friendly crowd.
How do I bet at The Normanby?
Easy. We have TAB facilities on location. You can bet with an operator or from your phone.
What’s on the menu?
Our roaming canapes are plentiful and delicious. We’ll keep you satisfied with a selection of sliders, bao buns, assorted seafood delights, a charcuterie grazing station and more. And we suggest you get their early to enjoy our fresh oyster bar. The finest fresh oysters from Tasmanian and other locations will be on ice, ready to enjoy.

What happens after the Melbourne Cup race?
At 3pm the Premium Package ends but the good times don’t! We have a 3 piece band to keep you entertained until we close later that evening. So stick around and make the most of your Tuesday…

Do you book out function spaces at The Normanby Hotel, if I want to have my own party?
We won’t be taking any private bookings for our rooms. But come along and soak up the atmosphere of the crowd in our beer garden and public bar.
Do you have parking?
Yes we have parking for about 80 cars on site. It’s right next door to the hotel. For directions, the address for parking is 18 Kelvin Grove Rd, Kelvin Grove.
